Unwelcome visitors!

We have got some very unwelcome visitors in our house at the moment, in the form of some horrid nasty little tummy bugs, who have definitely more than outstayed their welcome!

I have had a very ill small boy at home for the last couple of days, but I think the worst of it is over and those nasty little bugs have finally packed up their bags and are on their way out - x Fingers crossed x!!

To try and cheer my little boy up I made him a Tiny Turtle from a pattern that I found on Ravelry - then once my little girl came home from school and saw it I had to make another one for her, this time in pink!

Cath Kidston Knitting Bag

I had a girly day out shopping in Edinburgh on Saturday with my best friend and we found a Cath Kidston shop in George Street that I hadn't even known existed! We had a lovely time browsing around and I saw a Cath Kidston Knitting Bag that I had wanted for ages but coudn't justify buying for myself. My lovely friend very kindly bought it for me for my birthday :O)....... but my birthday isn't until the end of February so I will have to wait until then to get my mitts on it. I'm sure it will be well worth the wait!!

Knitting on DPNs

It's not as easy as it looks!!

I have never knitted on DPNs before and thought that I would give it a try. Inspired by a lovely pair of wristwarmers that I saw on Esther's blog - Hetty's happy days! - I decided to try and make myself a pair. The pattern is called Cabled Fingerless Gloves and can be found on Ravelry.

What a tangle I got myself into!! Where did I put all these extra needles and how did it all work? At first I ended up abandoning the cable pattern, as dealing with 5 needles was just a bit too much for me to get to grips with and I just knitted a plain "practise" mitt.

Then it all finally sank in and I started to get the hang of it! I have now completed about half of my first mitt and I am quite pleased with how it looks so far :O)

A bit early.....

I know that it's a little early for Easter, but I was looking through some old knitting patterns that belonged to my Aunty and saw a pattern for these cute little Easter chicks. I felt like doing a bit of knitting yesterday and decided to try out the pattern. It was so quick to make - less than an hour!

The little Easter Chicken is designed so that you can hide a Cadbury's Cream Egg inside his tummy. I just HAD to go into the shops on my way home from school this morning and buy a Cream Egg (or 2) to see if it was the right fit.

Guess who's tummy the Cream Egg is hiding in now!! And very yummy it was too. :0)

Disneyland

I've been to the travel agents this morning (along with a much loved and plastic card shaped friend) to pay the balance for our forthcoming holiday to Disneyland in Paris. We are flying off there for a fun filled week during the Easter holidays.

We went there at Easter time last year, but unfortunately my little boy got chicken pox halfway through our stay, so he was feeling a bit under the weather and more than a bit miserable. Poor little thing! :O(

Despite that we did all manage to have a fantastic time and decided that we just had to go back and do it all over again this year!!

Little Knitted Lamb

I have just finished making this little knitted lamb which is knitted from a free pattern available from a lovely site called FuzzyMitten, which is well worth a visit if you haven't seen it before.

When I say that I have just finished making it, the full story is that I have had the pieces knitted up since before October, but just couldn't bring myself to sew all the bits together! I hate the sewing up part of knitting - which is a bit strange because I have just discovered a love of sewing other things!

This is the first little toy that I have knitted, so I don't think that it looks too bad for a first attempt. I have now got to sew up a little knitted panda that I knitted at the same time, hopefully it won't take me another few months to do it!!

Back to Normal!

Where did the last two weeks go to? It doesn't seem that long since we were all getting excited for Christmas and looking forward to a nice break from work and school! Back to reality with a BIG bang this morning - Daddy off to work early and two very grumpy children back to school :O( Poor little things!!

I must say though, that it is quite nice to have the house back to myself for a few hours and have some ME time, without someone shouting MUM every two minutes!!

I have managed a little bit of sewing and have designed this lovely little PINK felty ballet shoe for my ballet mad daughter. I am quite pleased with how it turned out and may make some more in different colours, although pink seems to be a natural choice!!
