Moving House

Arrgghh!!

Things have been very hectic around here for the last week or so! Earlier on in the year you may remember this post when we had decided to build an extension onto our house. However, following a week full of meetings with the bank and estate agents we have now decided that moving house would be a much better idea.

I have been under very strict instructions from my lovely husband that I must de clutter the house in order to get it ready to put up for sale. Who is he trying to kid? I am a hoarder at heart and find it very difficult to get rid of things ~ quite traumatic in fact!! I like to squirrel things away ‘just in case’ they may be useful later! However, I have been a good girl and have been sorting out and sending bags of stuff to charity shops and putting lots of things in the bin and although I hate to admit it, the house does look a lot better with less clutter.

We have been ~ or should I say my lovely husband has been ~ very busy ripping up carpets and doing lots of painting and the house is starting to look very lovely indeed. So lovely in fact, that if we really didn’t need some extra space I would be changing my mind about moving altogether!

Whilst my lovely husband was painting last weekend I was sent on a little shopping trip to buy some new lampshades and blinds and other bits and pieces to make the house look pretty. As this only took me a couple of hours and I had been sent out of the way for the whole day I decided to have a little look in the wool shop! It was only a little look and as you can see I only bought a few balls of that very lovely Rowan Pure Wool DK. At last I can now finish my colourful crochet cushion cover and have plans to maybe start on a blanket too :O)

Oh moving house lucky you! Its something we desperately want to do, but we will have to wait. But we do have a master plan, as we are hoping for a big move in a few years time. We will have to wait and see on that and if fate is in our favour.

But we are in the slow process of sorting out stuff and having a de-clutter I am strange in the fact i can be a hoader but then quite savage when the mood takes me at getting rid of things! We are also at some point (I hope) going to be weilding paint brushes and doing a spot of decorating.

Lovely wools love the colours they are very pretty. Always nice to add to your stash isnt it. lol.

Happy de-cluttering and good luck with your move.

Hi, Jackie - it sounds, busy, busy busy! De-cluttering is so hard for me, too, and one of the worst things we've found is that several things we got rid of before coming to France would have come in very handy! That makes it particularly galling that I thought I was being good by chucking them...

Best of luck with it all.

I know what a challenge are this is as we are going through it again. So glad to see you took a moment to join some yarn shopping. Nothing like a little wool to ease the stress. Can't wait to see your project.

Why is it we live with all manner of clutter and undecorated and old stuff and as soon as we decide to move we allow ourselves to purchase that new lampshade or paint that room or get new flooring... why don't we treat ourselves better and live in nice surroundings...? I refuse to leave yet another house unless its been done up and I have had the pleasure of living in it for at least a year... mind you I think our house is in negative equity anyway and when our fixed mortgage ends next year we'll be really screwed... :(

hey ho... mum and dad have a spare room! ;D

I bet you find lots of treasures as you sort through your things. Good luck with the move and I love all that beautifully coloured wool in a pile.

Good luck with your plans. I too am a hoarder and it would be a nightmare if we were to put the house on the market. Where would I put it all!! It would have to go in a self storage place I think....
I like the wool, I haven't been able to crochet for a while too busy painting and decorating, I do miss it.

Hi just stumbled across your blog. I kept feeling I didnt have enough space . So i did a major declutter and I mean major!. I got rid of furniture and loads of bits and pieces. If you drop by my blog you will see what I mean! Everyone has commented that my house looks bigger! some have even said it looks like I am moving!. I have de flowered the house and gone minmalist. This is our first home and we have been here for ten years, but I know that when we move one day. It will be quite easy as I have got rid of loads!car booted it and charity shopped it! I asked myself if I needed the item? and when was the last time I used it!It really does make you think twice about buying things once you have major decluttered. You never know you might want to stay put in the end!x Dom
